Pomona, CA… Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation is pleased to announce that actor Gary Busey will narrate the story of Mr. Frank Glankler, recipient of Casa Colina’s Tribute to Courage in 2006. The event will be held at Pacific Palms Conference Resort in City of Industry on Saturday, February 18th and will begin at 5:30 pm with a Welcome Reception. The Dinner Program will begin at 7:00 pm and a dance celebration will be held from 9:15 to 10:30 pm. J. Sterling Orchestra will provide musical entertainment.
Frank Glankler is the Chief Operating Officer and Vice Chairman of the Board of two of the nation’s foremost homebuilding and real estate development enterprises – Frontier Homes and The Empire Companies. On February 29, 2004, he experienced an accident in his home which resulted in a fractured vertebra, leaving him completely paralyzed from the neck down. After surgery to reconstruct his neck in Scottsdale, AZ, he was told he would likely be a quadriplegic for the rest of his life. With the help of his family and friends, Frank found Casa Colina Hospital. After five months of acute rehabilitation, he was able to walk out of the facility upon discharge.
Actor Gary Busey was nominated for an Oscar for his leading role in The Buddy Holly Story and has played roles in over 100 feature films such as Lethal Weapon and Point Break. He survived a serious motorcycle accident in 1988 and is uniquely qualified to tell the story of Frank Glankler due to his own experiences in the field of medical and rehabilitative care after an injury.
Trisha Meili, author of the best-selling memoir I am the Central Park Jogger: A Story of Hope and Possibility, will also be a presenter at this year’s Tribute to Courage. On April 19, 1989, Trisha went for a run in New York’s Central Park shortly after 9 pm and was found hours later near death from a brutal beating and rape. The story seized headlines around the world as people contemplated the savagery of the attack. Amazing her doctors and colleagues, she returned to work only eight months after the attack, and pursued an 8-year career as a Vice President with Wall Street Investment Bank Salomon Brothers.
