CASA COLINA AUTISM CONFERENCE
TO BE HELD MARCH 11TH AND 12TH
AT HILTON LOS ANGELES/SAN GABRIEL
Pomona, CA…Casa Colina’s Fifth Annual Trends in Autism Conference
will be held at the Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel located at 2256 West
Valley Blvd. in San Gabriel, California on Saturday, March 11 from 7:30
am to 3:15 pm and Sunday, March 12th from 9 am to 4:30 pm.
The conference features physicians, therapists and other Autism experts
and is intended to assist family members of individuals with Autism, people
who have been diagnosed with Autism, teachers, educators, and clinicians
– about the latest clinical developments, real life experiences,
challenges, and achievements.
A guest speaker of special interest is Gerald Newport, a man with Autism
/ Asperger’s Syndrome who has been featured on the television show
“60 Minutes” and is currently the topic of a major motion
picture being produced and released in April 2006 about his life experiences.
Starring Josh Hartnett (Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down, Saturday Night
Live), the film is a very unconventional love story based on the life
of Newport. It is the romance of Donald Morton (Josh Hartnett) and Isabelle
Sorenson (Radha Mitchell), both of whom have Asperger’s syndrome,
a kind of autism. Rain Man screenwriter, Ron Bass, wrote the film which
is entitled Mozart and the Whale: An Asperger’s Love Story. The
film has been shown at festivals and will be released on April 14, starting
its theatrical run in Seattle, Washington.
Other presenters include the world-renown Dr. Margaret Bauman, an Associate
Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Associate Pediatrician
and Neurologist at Mass General Hospital for Children; Marvin Natowicz,
M.D., Ph.D., Director of Neurometabolism and Pediatric Neurology Research
at the Neuroscience Center of the Cleveland Foundation; Emily Rubin, M.S.,
CCC-SLP, a lecturer at Yale University and Director of Communication Crossroads
in Carmel, CA; Marian Sigman, Ph.D., Director of the UCLA Center for Autism
Research and Treatment; and many more experts in the field.
This conference is vendorized by the Regional Center. Certificates of
Attendance will be available as well as certain continuing education credits.
CME credits will also be provided.
A continental breakfast, box lunch, and break snacks on both days of the
