Casa Colina Autism Conference to be Held March 10th and 11th in Claremont
Pomona, CA…Casa Colina’s Sixth Annual Trends in Autism Conference will be held at Galileo Hall on the Harvey Mudd College Campus at 240 East Platt Blvd., Claremont, California on Saturday, March 10th from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm and Sunday, March 11th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The conference features physicians, therapists and other Autism experts and is intended to inform family members of individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, people who have been diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, teachers, educators, and clinicians – about the latest clinical developments, real life experiences, challenges, and achievements.

A guest speaker of special interest is Stephen Shore, Ed.D., a man with “strong autistic tendencies.” Nonverbal until four and recommended for institutionalization, Stephen Shore completed a doctorate at Boston University that focused on helping people with Autism develop their capacities to the fullest extent possible. He is the board president emeritus for the Asperger’s Association of New England and serves as board member for several other similar organizations. Stephen is the author of three books on Autism, and presents and consults internationally.

Other presenters include the world-renown Dr. Margaret Bauman, an Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Associate Pediatrician and Neurologist at Mass General Hospital for Children; Jane R. Madell, Ph.D., CCCA-SLP, Director of the Hearing, Speech, Language and Learning Center and Beth Israel Medical Center in New York and Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine; Dorry Brown, M.Ed., Director of the Group Language Therapy Program in the Center for Communication Disorders at Children’s Hospital Boston; Barbara Firestone, Ph.D. and Laurie Stephens, Ph.D., Dr. Barbara Firestone is President & CEO of The Help Group and Vice Chair of the California Legislative Blue Ribbon Commission on Autism. This conference is vendorized by the Regional Center and parents of Regional Center clients are welcome to attend. Certificates of Attendance will be available as well as certain continuing education credits.
