Pomona, CA…Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation is pleased to announce that Dr. Shashank Arya has been selected as the National Republican Congressional Committee’s 2006 Physician of the Year Honoree. Dr. Arya and a select panel of other physician honorees across the country will serve on a congressional committee and attend regular meetings in Washington, D.C. to discuss strategies to optimize healthcare and advocate for patients with rehabilitative needs. The recognition is a result of patient and constituent recommendations submitted to the Committee.

Dr. Arya joined Casa Colina in 2001 and is the Director of Rehabilitation at Casa Colina Hospital where his specialties include sports medicine, spine, electrodiagnostics, and orthopedic rehabilitation. In addition to his medical responsibilities at Casa Colina, Dr. Arya is an active staff physician at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena and San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland.

Congressman Tom Cole will present Dr. Arya with the award at the 2007 National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Republican Business Summit and March dinner event which will be held on March 15, 2007 in Washington, D.C. The event will also be attended by President George W. Bush and Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and founder of the Center for Health Transformation.

Dr. Arya is a Diplomate of the American Board of Physical Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine at Ross University School of Medicine, Dominica, West Indies, and completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio. He then completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. Dr. Arya is committed to medical research and was recognized for Outstanding Resident Research Paper and Presentation during the New York Society of PM&R meeting in 2001.
