California Brain Injury Association to Hold “Caregiver Conference” at Casa Colina on Tuesday, August 28TH from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM Pomona, CA… Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a growing public health concern with over 1.4 million people sustaining a TBI in the United States each year. California Brain Injury Association (CALBIA) is pleased to announce that it will hold a caregiver conference at Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation to increase California’s brain injury awareness, prevention, education and advocacy.

Topics of discussion include “Advocacy: Taking Charge and Influencing Change”; “Family Dynamics After Brain Injury”; “Communication Issues: Tips & Tricks”; “The ABC’s of Behavioral Management”; “Managing Medications with Your Personal Physicians”; “Stress: How to Combat Caregiver Burnout”; and “Preparing for the Future: Medical & Financial Issues”.

Presenters include David Patterson, M.D., board certified physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation and Medical Director of Casa Colina Hospital; Kelli McSwan, Ph.D., board certified psychologist specializing in neuropsychology and rehabilitation functioning and Clinical Director of Casa Colina’s Neuropsychology Department and Transitional Living Center; Mark J. Ashley, Sc.D., CCC-SLP, CCM; Lisa A. Kreber, Ph.D.; and Chris Persel, M.A.

Casa Colina is uniquely qualified to host this special program due to its long history of providing an innovative continuum of care for traumatic brain injury. From inpatient rehabilitation to post-acute rehabilitation programs, to outpatient services, residential facilities and an outdoor recreational program for people with disabilities, Casa Colina is dedicated to helping individuals with acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions such as spinal cord injury, stroke and multiple trauma, who would benefit from specialized medical and rehabilitation programs. All services promote the development of skills needed for successful home and community re-integration.

This conference will be held on Tuesday, August 28th from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm at Casa Colina’s Tamkin Education Center, Building 1D, which is located on the Casa Colina campus at 255 East Bonita Avenue (at Garey) in Pomona. Registration for the daylong event for CALBIA members is $30 and includes a light breakfast, lunch, and afternoon refreshments will be served and seating is limited.
