In its continued efforts to educate the community about headaches and how to most effectively treat them, the Casa Colina Headache Center is hosting a free community seminar on Thursday, June 3. Guest speakers Ernestina Saxton, M.D., Ph.D., program medical director of Casa Colina Headache Center and Barbara Johannsen, PT, MS, ATC, OCS, a Casa Colina staff physical therapist and certified orthopedic clinical specialist, will discuss why headaches are the most common medical problem presented to physicians today; how headaches differ among age groups; why an individual’s history of headaches is key to proper diagnosis and treatment; and treatment options for various types of headaches. In addition, attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a question and answer period with Dr. Saxton and Johannsen.
Those in attendance will also receive information about Casa Colina Headache Center. The center is a unique physician-directed program designed to help individuals, ages 5 and older, discover how to prevent or better manage their recurring headaches. Spearheaded by Dr. Saxton, the center offers a multi-disciplinary clinical team that is comprised of board-certified neurologists, radiologists, psychologists, nutritionists and licensed physical therapists that collaborates with pain management specialists, physiatrists, and other clinicians as needed. Together, they work closely with referring physicians, patients and their families to determine the underlying cause of an individual’s ongoing headaches to determine the most effective treatment. In addition, the team meets regularly to discuss patients’ cases, progress and treatment options.
