About Casa Colina History, Services and Expansion Efforts
For 75 years, the not-for-profit Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation has been a unique place of recovery and restoration. Its highly trained and experienced team of physicians, therapists, and nurses has helped more than 210,000 people reclaim their physical and cognitive abilities by providing them advanced rehabilitation services after an injury or illness.
Since 1998 and with the support of Casa Colina's Board of Directors, Casa Colina's President and Chief Executive Officer Felice L. Loverso, Ph.D. has spearheaded the rebuilding, renovation and revitalization of Casa Colina while preserving its rich history and tradition. Together, they created a vision for Casa Colina by addressing the needs of the community. This vision included becoming a Center of Excellence in rehabilitation and transforming Casa Colina Hospital into the core of a comprehensive continuum of care. To implement this vision, Casa Colina developed Clinical Pathways to ensure "best practices" for its Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury, Brain Injury and Orthopedics Programs as well as a building a relationship with the Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to help treat service members with traumatic brain injuries, supported by Casa Colina's Wounded Warrior Fund.
"Our mission has always been to develop a robust, medically-directed continuum of care that addresses chronic and episodic needs of individuals with or at risk for disability," said Dr. Loverso. "We hope that at the end of their course of treatment, our patients leave Casa Colina feeling that they have received exceptional, individualized care, allowing them to return home with maximum independence and functionality."
Seventy-five years later, Casa Colina continues to expand its facilities and services with the opening of a new 24,000 square-foot Medical Office Building, located on the Pomona Campus, in March 2013. Construction will also begin this year on an additional 31 medical-surgical beds for Casa Colina Hospital that will include three operating rooms, one procedure room and six intensive care beds.
"Casa Colina has always understood that it is one institution among many serving the health care needs of our community. We provide high quality specialized services that complement the work of hospitals, physicians, nurses and many other health care providers. Casa Colina's expansion efforts will continue this long and cooperative tradition, providing options for patients and physicians that extend the capabilities of health services in the region," explained Dr. Loverso.
In celebrating its anniversary, Casa Colina will host a 75th Anniversary Gala on June 1st at the Sheraton Fairplex Convention Center in Pomona. The community is also invited to attend a monthly "Lunchtime Social" where they will learn more about Casa Colina's history and future plans, hear inspiring stories from former patients, meet staff members and receive a free lunch. Tours of the 20-acre campus will also be offered. Special events and activities will also be held on campus for employees and patients throughout the year.
The "Lunchtime Social" is held on the second Wednesday of every month through October 13, 2013 from Noon to 1:30 p.m. at Casa Colina's Tamkin Education Center, Building 1D. Space is limited and reservations are required. For more information and to RSVP, please call the Casa Colina Foundation at (909) 596-7733, ext. 2232 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
