Program Provides Comprehensive, Innovative Care for Joint Replacement Patients

POMONA, Calif., January 10, 2018 — Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare, a leading medical-surgical services and physical rehabilitation provider, today announced its new Revive Joint Replacement Program at its state-of-the-art Orthopedic & Robotics Center, providing comprehensive and innovative care for joint replacement patients.

“Casa Colina’s Revive Joint Replacement Program provides patients with complete, start-to-finish care,” said Luis A. Corrales, M.D., board-certified orthopedic surgeon and director of the Revive Joint Replacement Program. “A fundamental concept of wellness is executed throughout the entire program, which incorporates innovative robotic-arm assisted technology and minimally invasive, analgesic and rapid-recovery surgical techniques — with an environment that maximizes patient recovery through education, a culture of early mobility, family involvement, and group interaction.”

The Revive Experience

The Revive Joint Replacement Program features ground-breaking techniques including state-of-the-art, robotic-arm assisted surgical technology for total and partial knee replacements. Through virtual 3D imaging, the orthopedic surgeon maps out each step of the surgical process prior to the procedure, allowing for the highest level of precision and efficiency. Robotic-arm assisted joint replacement allows for extreme accuracy, typically resulting in less pain, a more rapid recovery and shorter hospital stay while promoting an improved fit, stability and “feel” of the replacement joint.

With patient safety as the foremost priority, surgical candidates undergo Pre-Operative Admissions Testing with a registered nurse which is then reviewed by an anesthesiologist. This identifies high-risk patients and unforeseen health conditions to ensure surgery and recovery go as smoothly and safely as possible.

In addition, the Revive Joint Replacement Program hosts a pre-operative education class, available in English and Spanish, which teaches patients what to expect before and after surgery. Patients, as well as a designated family member or friend, also known as the patient’s “Coach,” will receive guidance and education that covers the entire surgical and recovery process. This level of education allows for better preparation and recovery of the patient, resulting in a better patient experience and outcome.

After surgery, patients recuperate in Casa Colina’s spacious, private recovery suites, receiving conveniences such as personal daybeds for their designated “Coach”, private bathrooms and televisions, and indoor and outdoor visitation areas. Group activities and lunch with other joint replacement patients are offered to promote a sense of camaraderie and community on the dedicated Revive hospital wing. In addition, Casa Colina’s team of highly trained orthopedic physical therapists help patients begin walking on the same day as surgery, helping patients return to mobility and their own homes within a day of surgery. In many cases, partial knee replacement patients return home the same day as surgery.

To ensure lasting, positive patient outcomes, the Revive Joint Placement Program enrolls patients in its exclusive JointCOACH online portal, a dynamic digital resource that can be easily accessed on a smartphone, tablet or computer. JointCOACH assigns patients with a personalized CarePath that addresses the steps needed to achieve a successful joint replacement experience, including instant reminders, answers to patients’ questions and convenient access to their Revive orthopedic surgeons, orthopedic care coordinator, nurses and physical therapist. Patient satisfaction and progress is monitored for 12 months after surgery.

Leadership and Success

As medical director of the Revive Joint Replacement Program, Dr. Corrales leads the clinical staff to ensure that patients of the program receive the highest level of care possible before, during and after surgery. Dr. Corrales earned degrees at UCLA and Harvard Medical School before completing his residency at the UCSF Orthopaedic Residency Program and continuing surgical training through two prestigious orthopedic fellowships. Under Dr. Corrales’ leadership, the Revive Joint Replacement Program creates data-proven outcomes that provide patients with the highest possible surgical care and experience.

“This is not your typical hospital program or hospital stay,” said Felice L. Loverso, PhD., president and CEO of Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare. “Dr. Corrales, along with the clinical team at Casa Colina, developed this innovative program to improve patient outcomes and provide a superior experience for individuals having joint replacement surgery. This program further supports Casa Colina’s goals of providing the highest level of patient-centered medical and surgical care available anywhere in the West.”
