Southern California Lymphedema Management Program

Controlling the Swelling

Lymphedema causes a debilitating enlargement of the arms and legs. Much like diabetes or high-blood pressure, there is no cure for this condition, but Casa Colina's Lymphedema Management Program can help you control the symptoms over the long term through proper treatment so you can regain control of your limbs and resume many of your normal activities. The program is a recognized affiliate treatment center for the National Lymphedema Network.

This program is recommended if you have Primary or Secondary Lymphedema due to:

  • Milroy's disease
  • Meige disease
  • Late-onset lymphedema
  • Surgery that involved the lymph nodes/vessels
  • Radiation treatment for cancer
  • Cancer cells or tumors near the lymph nodes/vessels
  • Infection of the lymph nodes/vessels
  • Injury to the lymph nodes/vessels
  • Venous stasis

In order to participate in this program, it's important that you, or your loved one, have stable cardiac and renal functions, and also be fully committed to managing this condition.

You or a loved one will benefit from a licensed physical therapist, certified as a lymphedema therapist, who will perform:

  • Manual lymphatic drainage
  • Compression bandaging
  • Compression garments
  • Lymphedema exercises
  • Patient and caregiver education
  • Skin care
  • Techniques to reduce infection

In a short time, you'll gain a better understanding of lymphedema, which will in turn lead to improved limb function and a healthier quality of life.
