Wheelchair & Seating

Customized wheelchair and seating to fit your lifestyle

When you spend hours in a wheelchair or seat each day, you want it to fit your lifestyle. At the Casa Colina Wheelchair & Seating Program, we understand the complex needs of individuals who require a wheelchair and specialized seating, considering factors such as skin protection, mobility, and functionality.

For custom orders, our licensed therapists only work with vendors who meet the strict standards of the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA). This partnership helps ensure the highest-quality equipment, plus the finest selection and fit.

Why Custom Fitting for Wheelchairs and Seats?

Most wheelchairs and seating cushions are designed to suit a broad range of people. Unfortunately, that’s exactly why they can be so uncomfortable. For maximum comfort, we can custom-tailor your equipment to best match your:

  • Cognition
  • Comfort
  • Continence
  • Environment
  • Health
  • Impairments
  • Positioning needs
  • Preferences
  • Sensation
  • Skin
  • Support
  • Type of wheelchair

Who Will Benefit from the Wheelchair & Seating Program?

Our program is ideally suited for those who need custom-designed wheelchairs and/or seating systems due to:

  • Neurological, orthopedic, or cardio-respiratory conditions
  • Skin breakdown/pressure ulcers
  • Change in needs and mobility
  • Alternative wheelchair control systems

The program is not intended for people who are in need of rental or standard manual wheelchairs.

Our Wheelchair & Seating Program offers:

  • Licensed, RESNA-certified physical therapists experienced in specialized fitting
  • Wheelchair and seating evaluation
  • Pressure-mapping evaluation
  • Wheelchair and seating vendors who meet RESNA-certification standards
  • Trial manual wheelchairs
  • Trial power wheelchairs, including Quickie, Permobil, Invacare, Quantum, and the innovative all-terrain iBot from Mobius Mobility
  • Trial seating/positioning systems
  • Custom-molded seating made by vendors
  • Caregiver training
  • Equipment use and maintenance education
  • Wheelchair skills training to help wheelchair users learn to better navigate situations such as busy intersections, hills, and challenging terrain

Your First Visit

We’ll carefully evaluate your flexibility, strengths, and weaknesses to find equipment that offers the greatest comfort and mobility. We use pressure-mapping technology to evaluate your current seating and wheelchair fit and determine what improvements can be made to reduce any pain, inflammation, or ulcers that often result from poorly fitting equipment. We’ll also consider your home, work, school, and transportation needs.

Before you invest in new equipment, we’ll assess you with trial seating and wheelchair equipment to ensure the proper fit and selection. Then we’ll coordinate the ordering of this equipment from an approved vendor. We will evaluate you in the equipment once it’s obtained if appropriate.
