The Outdoor Adventures staff is comprised of individuals who create a dynamic and diverse team. Our staff members are Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialists and Wilderness First Responders, bringing a foundation of therapeutic values and assuring a high level of safety on every trip.
Anne Johnson,
Founder and Director of Outdoor Adventures, has just celebrated her 32th year at Casa Colina and brings a life-long love and respect for the outdoors. Twenty-four years ago, Anne saw the need for a program that would provide outdoor experiences for persons with disability and, with the support of Casa Colina, began providing outdoor adventure opportunities. During those years, the program grew from a single camping weekend to nearly 134 days of high adventure trips and 40 days of after school activities.
Jennifer Bartel CTRS has been providing outdoor high adventure recreation to persons of all abilities since 1985 and joined Casa Colina’s Outdoor Adventures in the summer of 1998 as a student intern. Upon completion of the internship, she assumed the role of Associate Director, Outdoor Adventures. Jennifer brings to Casa Colina a passion for the natural world and has focused her skill development in the areas of outdoor environmental education, ropes course development and facilitation, residential camping services and outdoor high adventure programming for people with disabilities. Jennifer has recently served as project administrator for the Casa Colina Survive & Thrive Project; a program designed to address the needs of military service members returning from war with traumatic brain injury/PTSD and the affects that these injuries have not only on the service member but also on the entire family unit.
