Foundation > Planned Giving
We would be honored if you would consider Casa Colina’s Foundation as you plan your estate and/or investment options. Over the last seventy years, many people have supported Casa Colina through special trusts and annuities whereby gifts of cash, securities and real estate provided income for the donors during their lifetime.

These generous contributions have helped establish a strong financial foundation for Casa Colina, which supported the construction of the new hospital and renovation of the campus in the early 2000’s.

Planned or deferred gifts provide donors of Casa Colina with great flexibility in meeting their charitable goals. We offer gifting plans to meet individual needs through a number of programs, including:

  • Bequest — You can make charitable gifts by naming the Casa Colina as a beneficiary in your will. The federal government encourages these gifts or bequests, by allowing an unlimited estate tax charitable deduction.
  • Charitable Gift Annuity —A Charitable Gift Annuity is a contract (not a "trust"), under which a charity, in return for a transfer of cash, marketable securities or other assets, agrees to pay you and/or your spouse a fixed amount of money (payment), for the remainder of your life/lives, not a term of years. The irrevocably contributed property (the gift) becomes a part of the charity's assets, and the payments are a general obligation of the charity. The charity’s entire assets, not just the property contributed, back the annuity. The annuity payments continue for the life/lives of the annuitant(s), and not only as long as assets remain in the Gift Annuity Fund.
  • Charitable Remainder Trust — A charitable remainder trust is created by transferring your assets to a trust that typically pays you and/or your spouse an income for life or a term of up to 20 years. At the end of the trust, the remaining trust assets are transferred to the Casa Colina. There are several tax savings and tax advantages to this type of trust, including the complete prevention of long-term capital gains tax on the sale of appreciated property sold after it has been transferred to the charitable trust.
  • Gift of Life Insurance — Life insurance policies that have some built up cash value can be donated to Casa Colina. You may claim a charitable income-tax deduction for approximately the cash-surrender value of your policy. In addition, the value of the proceeds is removed from your estate for gift and estate-tax purposes.
  • Charitable Lead Trust — A charitable lead trust is a way to make annual gifts to charity and potentially transfer principal to loved ones at little or no gift, estate or generation-skipping tax. You may transfer assets to a trust that makes payments to Casa Colina for a certain number of years. At the end of the trust term, the trust principle will go to your selected beneficiaries, typically family members. The value of the annual payments to Casa Colina lowers or eliminates the tax(es) that otherwise would be owed at the establishment of the trust.
  • Gift of Retirement Plan —Many successful people have large qualified retirement plans such as IRA, 401(k) or Keogh plans. The assets in these plans will ultimately be subject to income tax through the estate process. However, you can avoid all income tax on any of these assets gifted to Casa Colina through your estate.
  • Retained Life Estate — A retained life estate is a gift plan defined by federal tax law that allows you to donate your home or farm to Casa Colina while retaining the right to live in it for the rest of their life/lives. At the time of the gift, you may also receive a generous charitable income-tax deduction.

Casa Colina has the resources available to help you understand how to plan your gifts. In many cases, planned gifts can benefit you and your family as well as the work and mission of Casa Colina. It is a wonderful way to show just how much you care for your community by leaving what you can to help others.
