Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare Announces Annual Tribute to Courage Gala, Honors Casa Colina Patients

Hosted by Actress Bonnie Hunt With Guest Speaker Aron Ralston; Proceeds to Benefit Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare

POMONA, Calif., Jan. 21, 2015 — Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare is pleased to announce its annual Tribute to Courage gala on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel and Conference Center in Pomona, Calif. The gala, which annually honors some of Casa Colina's present and past courageous patients, will be hosted by film actress and television personality Bonnie Hunt with guest speaker Aron Ralston, fearless adventurer, amputee, and best-selling author of Between a Rock and a Hard Place .

"We are thrilled to announce Casa Colina's annual Tribute to Courage gala, a special event that honors some of the most courageous of Casa Colina's patients. These patients' stories are full of triumph, determination, and an exceptional will to live life to the fullest, despite setbacks. It is an honor to be in their presence and celebrate their achievements," said Felice L. Loverso, president and CEO of Casa Colina.

This year's guest speaker is Aron Ralston, best-selling author of Between a Rock and a Hard Place and the inspiration behind the Oscar-nominated film 127 Hours. In April 2003, Ralston survived a canyoneering accident in southeastern Utah, during which he amputated his own right forearm to extricate himself from a dislodged boulder under which he had been trapped for 127 hours. After rehabilitation, Ralston continued his adventures, and in 2005, he achieved his goal of climbing all 59 of Colorado's "fourteeners" (peaks more than 14,000 feet high) solo and in winter conditions, a feat that had never been recorded.

The Tribute to Courage gala is Casa Colina's primary fundraising event each year. All proceeds from the event benefit Casa Colina's free and uncompensated care fund, which helps provide care for under-resourced patients and, in some cases, temporary housing for patients' families so they may be near their loved ones during the often-lengthy rehabilitation process. This fund allows Casa Colina to continue its unwavering dedication to its mission statement of "providing individuals the opportunity to maximize their medical recovery and rehabilitation potential efficiently in an environment that recognizes their uniqueness, dignity and self-esteem."

The Tribute to Courage black-tie-optional reception begins at 5:30 p.m. and is followed by dinner, a program, and dancing at 7:00 p.m. Platinum sponsors to-date include Aramark and SEI Investments Company. Gold sponsors to-date include AmSurg, Barney & Barney, Mary Lou Jensen, Lucas Panish Shea & Boyle, LLP, Mark Christopher Chevrolet, Methodist Hospital of Southern California, Quick Care Pharmacy, San Antonio Community Hospital, Siemens, and the UCLA Department of Neurosurgery.

About Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare

Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare was founded in 1936 in Chino, Calif., under the leadership of Frances Eleanor "Mother" Smith and other community leaders and physicians to provide rehabilitative care to children with polio. In the early 1950s, when polio was at epidemic proportions, a plan was developed to build a new hospital in nearby Pomona, Calif. In 1959, the new hospital was completed, and Casa Colina expanded its medical and physical rehabilitation services to concentrate on treating people of all ages and disabilities resulting from neurological and/or orthopedic conditions. In recent years, Casa Colina has renovated its entire 20-acre Pomona campus to build a continuum of rehabilitative care unmatched in the Western United States. This includes a state-of-the-art acute rehabilitation hospital, outpatient center, post-acute residential rehabilitation center, children's services, adult day health care, specialized physician clinics, diagnostic imaging, ambulatory surgery center, outdoor recreation program, and other highly specialized services. The new Casa Colina Medical Office Building opened on the campus in June 2013, and construction of a 31-bed medical/surgical hospital addition is currently underway with a scheduled opening in late summer 2015.
