Temporomandibular Joint Pain

Therapeutic treatment for jaw-related conditions

Pain and dysfunction in the temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) can be extremely debilitating. Chronic jaw discomfort may lead to difficulty eating, anxiety, stress, and loss of sleep.

If you suffer from TMJ pain, Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare can help. We offer outpatient physical therapy services to relieve the severity of temporo-mandibular dysfunction (TMD) symptoms. Casa Colina’s experienced physical therapists provide the needed manual therapy, comprehensive exercise, and educational programming to help patients increase jaw range of motion, improve posture and jaw alignment, and decrease pain and discomfort.

Physical therapy is recommended for those with the following TMD symptoms:

  • Difficulty biting, chewing, or opening the mouth fully
  • Ear pain
  • Migraine and tension headaches
  • Jaw popping, clicking, or locking
  • Jaw pain or tenderness
  • Sore jaw and neck muscles
  • Temple or cheek pain

We use a range of therapy modalities, including:

  • Biofeedback
  • Postural retraining
  • Home exercises and self-mobilization
  • Education to develop new motor skills
  • Relaxation techniques/heat/cold as needed
