Physical Therapy in Orthopedics Residency

    The 52-week, APTA-credentialed program enrolls 1 to 2 residents every January. The application process includes an observation of the applicant performing a mock evaluation and a panel interview.

    Applications are due August 1. Tuition is $3,000.

    Curriculum:

    • 1,800 hours of clinical practice (32 hours per week)
    • 150 hours of one-to-one mentoring (3-4 hours per week)
    • 500 hours of resident-directed learning activities (includes didactic/lab instruction)
      • 112 hours of didactic/lab instruction (LearningMovements.com) and 201 hours of independent study, APTA Orthopedic section, encompassing:
        • Clinical reasoning
        • Clinical research
        • Upper- and lower-quadrant physical examination and manual treatment procedures
        • Rehabilitation of common musculoskeletal disorders
        • Interviewing and communication skills

    Applications are available through the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE) at www.abptrfe.org.

    Orthopedics residency applications are due August 1.

    Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

    • Maintain a valid California Physical Therapy License
    • Maintain a current CPR/AED certification
    • Completed at least 6 months of clinical practice in an orthopedic or setting in the last year or one clinical affiliation as a student in Orthopedics (if a recent graduate). If the applicant is newly graduated, a letter of recommendation from a clinical instructor is requested
    • Comply with all Casa Colina employment requirements
