Social Connection Programs

Fostering social well-being for youth with diverse needs

The Casa Colina Children’s Services Center offers weekly social connection programs for children and teens with social delays. Led by licensed occupational therapists and/or speech-language pathologists and assistants, our groups help participants to better engage with peers, working with them on age-appropriate skills like problem-solving, communication, and conflict resolution, to help your child improve social connections and thrive with peers.

We offer three levels of social connection training. Each group is divided as necessary to achieve age-appropriate sub-groups that ensure your child will be placed with kids closer in age and ability level:

Kids Crew

Kids Crew is a social connection program designed for children ages 4 to 12 years old. All program levels consist of eight weekly sessions that focus on:

• Personal space
• Initiating play with peers
• Engaging in play with peers
• Responding to interactions
• Greetings/farewells
• Body language and eye contact
• Maintaining conversations
• On-topic comments
• Flexibility of play
• Sportsmanship
• Sharing and turn-taking
• Entering play space

Adventure Together

Adventure Together gives participants ages 3 to 16 access to diverse, age-appropriate leisure activities that promote improved quality of life through social and community engagement. Program levels are determined by age group and consist of ten weekly sessions that focus on:

• Personal space
• Sharing and turn-taking
• Basic conversation skills
• Engaging in group activities with peers
• Social greetings and farewells

Teen Scene

Teen Scene is a social connection and life skills program designed for teens and young adults between 13 and 22 years of age. Program levels consist of 12 weekly sessions that focus on:

• Entering and maintaining participation in social activities
• Body awareness and body language
• Functional communication
• Table manners and hygiene
• Personal space
• Problem solving and conflict resolution
• Cooperative planning
• Establishing and maintaining friendships
• Employment readiness
• Community outings

Bridge Builders

Bridge Builders is a therapist-facilitated group that helps kids/adolescents build social connections through leisure and engaging lessons. All program levels consists of 8 weekly sessions that focus on:

• Social referencing
• Body awareness
• Practicing life skills
• Creating positive social experiences
• Self -advocacy and expressing preferences
• Developing peer interactions
